Special Education
...creating the immeasurable impact of Change in students' lives
Bringing ALL of our neighbors out of hiding and into the light...
In the developing world, young students and adults are often hidden by familes due to cultural shaming or even the risk of death.
The provision of special education for students with disabilities often faces significant challenges. Limited resources, inadequate infrastructure, and societal stigmas surrounding disabilities frequently compound the difficulties faced by these students. Educational institutions may lack trained personnel, appropriate facilities, and accessible teaching materials necessary to support diverse learning needs. Moreover, cultural beliefs and misconceptions about disabilities can lead to marginalization and exclusion from mainstream education. Despite these obstacles, efforts to promote inclusive education are emerging, driven by advocacy groups, NGOs, and governmental initiatives. These efforts aim to foster an environment where all students, regardless of ability, can access quality education tailored to their individual needs. Sustainable progress in this area requires not only investment in specialized resources and teacher training but also a shift in cultural attitudes towards individuals with disabilities. By addressing these challenges, the developing world can strive towards ensuring that every child, including those with disabilities, has the opportunity to learn and thrive.

Be The Change Volunteers SPED program engages certified special education teachers to evaluate and determine the need for adapted infrastructure, specialized equipment and training for community partners. The goal is to improve accessibility of standard classrooms for students with disabilities
Be the Change Volunteers is committed to providing accessible infrastructure by repairing and adding ramps instead of stairs to classrooms and campus access points. Even when we don't see students who need a ramp we know this encourages them to come and see that this school is for them also.
