Phomotso loved everything about photography, especially finding his unique perspective on each shot and the way one picture could tell an entire story. He loved to learn each person’s story and then tell it to others through his art. He was an incredibly talented photographer and storyteller. He completed his dream, becoming the first BTCV Kid to earn a University Diploma, and was offered a job by the top commercial photographer in South Africa. But, Phomotso asked to defer his employment for one year so he could complete his Master’s in photography, as he felt that more education could make him even better!
A scholarship fund has been established in Phomotso's honor
“The Phomotso ‘Motsy' Makeke Cook Everything-is-the-best Scholarship Fund for Passionate Pursuit of Education” will be used to benefit BTCV Kids, CIS and TUT students, especially those interested in photojournalism. Click the button below and designate your gift in honor of "Phomotso Makeke." |
Phomotso appreciated what BTCV had done for him, and many others, tremendously, and was a true Changer in every sense of the word. In 2015, he was able to complete another one of his dreams when he participated as a BTCV Volunteer on our Malawi project (029), helping to rebuild a classroom at the Sankhani School in Makalani Village, Lilongwe. Seeing the mission of BTCV come full circle with one of the students from one of our very first builds now helping to bring the power of education to another deserving group of students was also a dream come true for us.
