Background Check instructions
Please follow ALL instructions. BTCV uses Sentrylink.com a secure site that is a trusted provider of background checks for volunteer organizations. The instructions on the site are very straightforward. First please have a look at the information below to ensure you complete the process correctly. Fees may vary based on the home state of the applicant. If you are age 17 or under please use the form at the bottom of the page.
Please follow ALL instructions. Background Checks MUST be sent to BTCV from SentryLink we can not accept a PDF attachment from the volunteer's personal email account.
1) Click the Sentrylink.com button below
2) If you are a New Volunteer click "Register" If you are a returning volunteer a background check is required annually.
3) Once you register an account you will pay the $20 background check fee and fill out your personal information. As you complete the form mark the report to be used in "Missouri" where BTCV is registered.
4) Background checks take 1-2 business days to process you will receive an email notification be sure to check spam folders.
5) In your email follow the "Show Report" link in your email notification then login to see your results.

6) IMPORTANT - Click "Share Report" and type or copy and paste: [email protected] this will send your report from SentryLink to BTCV.
Once BTCV has received your report it will be reviewed for approval by staff and added to your volunteer file. All reports are confidential and will not be shared with other volunteers or team leaders. You will only be contacted if your report is not received or if approval is not granted for participation.
Background checks are considered qualified for 1 year to the end of the month from the date they are logged by SentryLink so travelers will be qualified by the same background check for multiple trips within that time period.
Example: Background Checks logged on September 4th, 2023 will be considered qualified until September 30th, 2025.
