Cambodia
The Cambodia project became the official inaugural BTCV project. It was completed in October 2008 on Tonle Sap Lake in Siem Reap, Cambodia. BTCV built The Floating Learning Center - a school on a boat - which serves a floating community of 160 families with no consistently accessible educational facilities prior to the BTCV project. Since the 2008 project this school has been the primary resource sending students from their early childhood education years into local primary schools.
In 2019 as part of a follow up initative BTCV site evaluators traveled from Missouri and New Mexico to Cambodia to check in on the school and it's programs. Evaluators were thrilled to find that the school was still a staple in the community. In fact the school had been secured permanently on high concrete piers which rise above the lake waters high season.
